1. What is the widest part of your face?

If it’s your forehead, your face shape likely falls into the heart, square or rectangular categories. Here’s how to narrow it down:

• Heart: If your forehead is visibly wider than your cheekbones and your chin area is narrow, you probably have a heart-shaped face. If you’ve got a v-shaped point in the center of your hairline, you’ve got a heart-shaped face.

• Square or rectangular: If your forehead is about the same width as your cheekbones and jawline, you’ve got either a square or rectangular-shaped face. The difference is in the length of your face. If the length of your face is twice as long as the width, you’re a rectangle. And if the width and length are about the same, you’re a square.

• Diamond: If your forehead appears smaller than your cheekbones and your chin is narrow, you probably fall into the diamond category.

• Oval or round: If your forehead is slightly narrower than your cheekbones and you have a soft, rounded hairline, your face shape is oval or round. As with squares and rectangles, the key difference is in the length. If the length of your face is twice as long as the width, your face shape is oval. Length and width about the same? 2. What shape is your jawline?

• If it’s soft and rounded…the clue is in the name. You’ve got yourself a round or oval-shaped face.
• If you’ve got a pointed chin, you have either a diamond or a heart-shaped face. Check your forehead width for further clues: if it’s wider or about the same width as your cheekbones, it’s a heart. If your forehead is visibly narrower than your cheekbones, your face is a diamond shape.
• A strong jawline is the most obvious feature of the square, rectangular or triangular face shape. If your chin is about the same width as your cheekbones and forehead, your face shape is square or rectangular. If your jawline is the widest part of your face, you are a triangle

3. How long is your face?

• Short: If the length and width of your face are about the same, you probably have a diamond, round, or square face shape. Check the jawline guide above to be sure.
• Average: If your face is slightly longer than it is wide, it might be oval, heart, or triangular shape. Again, your jawline will be the deciding factor.
• Long: If the length of your face is twice as long as the width, you have a rectangular face.
