MIKE MCMEEKEN – How to get the Mike McMeeken Haircut
Recently crowned “National Trainee Barber of The Year” Jay from Pall Mall Barbers Bishopsgate explains how to get the Mike McMeeken haircut.
Who is Mike McMeeken?
Mike McMeeken is an English rugby league player who plays as a second-row forward for the Castleford Tigers in the Super League. He’s also represented England at international level.
What is the haircut?
The Mike McMeeken haircut is a short, textured crop with a high fade.
What should you ask your barber for?
Ask your barber for high 0.5 fade on the back & sides – you could even opt for a skin fade depending on how short you want to go. The top should be cut with plenty of texture going through the hair and the fringe should be cropped to a short length, allowing the front of the hairline to sit straight.
Who would suit the Mike McMeeken haircut?
First things first, you need a good head of hair to pull of this particular men’s haircut and a straight front hairline works best. Does that sound like you? In that case, this low maintenance, stylish and on-trend haircut might be The One. It’s not really one for the receding folk – sorry gents.
How often do I need to get it cut?
If you want the look to be consistent as one of the best haircuts for men, you should visit the barbershop every two to three weeks to really maintain that sharp fade. As this is a very short, tight haircut it will last about four weeks before losing shape and style.
How should I style this haircut at home?
Apply a few spritzes of Sea Salt Spray into dry hair and use a hair dryer to build foundation. Then, add a fingertip amount of Pliable Clay from the root of the hair to the tip to create a medium hold and matt texture. This look can also be worn without product and left to dry naturally if you are short on time, but using product will give you more style, texture and hold.

OWEN FARRELL – How to get the Owen Farrell Haircut
Martin from Pall Mall Barbers Bishopsgate explains how to get the Owen Farrell haircut.
Who is Owen Farrell?
Owen is an English rugby union player, currently playing for Saracens and the England National Team.
What should you ask your barber for?
A short clipper cut back and sides (a grade 1 or 2) taken high. If you want to go a little shorter on the sides, ask your barber for a low 0.5 taper. The top will be longer and layered with lots of texture cut into it.
How should I style this haircut at home?
Styling can be done with or without a hair dryer. When using a hair dryer, apply some Sea Salt Spray while the hair is still damp, then finish with some Pliable Clay. The Sea Salt Spray will give the hair a subtle hold whilst the Pliable Clay is used to emphasise the texture in the hair and to give a matte finish. If you’re not going to blow dry your hair, use Pliable Clay on its own while the hair is still damp.
Who would suit the Owen Farrell style?
This is a great, versatile haircut for all face shapes that work with most hair types. If you’re looking for sharp, short hair for men that requires minimal maintenance then this could be the cut for you.
How often do I need to get it cut?
You will need to get your hair cut every three to four weeks to maintain this style.
How should I style this haircut?
If you’re not going to blow dry your hair, then Pliable Clay should be used on its own while the hair is still damp. If you decide to blow-dry your hair apply some Sea Salt Spray while the hair is still damp, then rub a small amount of Pliable Clay between the fingers and work from root to tip for a strong, matte hold with added texture.
To keep your hair clean and easy to style, make sure you use a good shampoo and conditioner. If you have normal to dry hair, try the Pall Mall Barbers Argan shampoo and conditioner. If your hair is naturally oily or you use a lot of products, then the Pall Mall Barbers Tea Tree shampoo and conditioner is the best option for you. Ask your barber for a sample on your next trip to Pall Mall Barbers.
GEORGE FORD – How to get the George Ford Haircut
Master barber Sara from Pall Mall Barber Bishopsgate explains how to get your hair just like England Rugby star, George Ford.
Who is George Ford?
Manchester-born George Ford is a professional Rugby player for the England national team and club outfit, Leicester Tigers. He’s a hit with the ladies and a great role model for any young gent.
What should you ask your barber for?
George’s hair is a classic gents’ look – short back and sides with a neat sweep to one side on top. This is a neat haircut, requires minimal maintenance and can be easily achieved at home. For the back and sides ask your barber for a 0.5 fade. You don’t have to go this short – a grade 1 or 2 would do the job just fine. However, a shorter fade is recommended to get that sharp, tight look.
The top should be scissor-cut to a short length. Your barber must leave enough length on the fringe so the hair can be swept up and back to one side (any side that fits the direction of your natural hair growth pattern).
How often do I need to get it cut?
Visit your barber every two to three weeks to maintain this haircut. Anything over four weeks and the style will begin to lose its shape.
How should I style this haircut at home?
Apply a small amount of pliable clay to dry hair for a good hold and a matte finish. If you want a bit more shine, opt for the Pall Mall Barber’s Texture Enhancer.

HENRY SLADE – Who is Henry Slade?
Slade is known as one of the England Rugby team’s best kickers, and his short, textured quiff is perfect if you don’t mind spending a little effort to style your hair in the morning.
What should you ask your barber to get Henry’s messy short textured quiff to look?
To ask for a quiff, you’ll need to have grown out your hair so that your barber has some length to work with. For Henry’s Slade hair, ask for a short clipper cut on the back and sides – a grade 2 taken high will do the trick. Your barber will need to use either a texturing shear or razor point cutting or block cutting – these techniques are designed to add different lengths in the hair, leaving you with a choppy, messy style.
Who is Henry Slade’s haircut suitable for?
Henry’s hairstyle is a great in-between haircut for men who don’t want to go too short and need a quick and easy style to do in the morning. Messy and short textured quiffs are easy to maintain and style, and you don’t need to worry about it losing shape during the day. It gives you plenty of length to play with on the top.
How should I style this haircut at home?
For this look, you can style the hair with or without a hairdryer but if you want to nail it, you should keep in mind that a short, textured quiff is all about the blow-dry. When using a hairdryer, apply some Sea Salt Spray while the hair is still damp, then finish with Pompadour Paste or Pliable Clay for a firm hold and plenty of natural shine and texture.
If you’re not going to blow dry your hair, then Pliable Clay should be used alone while the hair is still damp, making sure you create plenty of lift in the front.

JOSS BUTTLER – How to get the Joss Buttler Haircut
Who is Jos Buttler?
Jos Buttler is the England Cricket vice-captain. He recently stopped by our Birmingham barbershop for a trim and was happy to pose for a photo with our talented barber, who tells us how to get his look here.
We’ve been thrilled to welcome a number of England cricketers to our Birmingham barbershop this World Cup season, including Jofra Archer (who bowled our super over) Ben Stoakes, Liam Plunkett and Liam Dawson. Our champion team have made us proud – and we were honoured to get the guys looking sharp for the big occasion.
How do I ask for Jos Buttler haircut?
To get Buttler’s look, you need to ask your barber for a 1.5 on the back and sides, tapered round the ears and tapered down to a 0 at the neck. For the top, ask your barber to point cut the top to add texture and remove weight. This haircut also has a soft parting so be sure to mention that as well. The front of the hair should be left slightly longer than the rest of the top to give you versatility when it comes to styling the hair.
Who is Joss Buttler’s haircut suitable for?
Sally says, “Jos has the perfect style for anyone who has a cowlick. It’s a clean and short hair style with good length at the front to create the perfect sweep over. The top is nicely textured allowing the style to change from up or messy at the front, or pushed over to the one side, leaving a soft side parting.”
How should I style this haircut at home?
If your hair can be unmanageable or needs extra hold, use our Workable Paste to keep it in place. If you’re lucky and the cow’s lick is your only problem, then a spritz of Sea Salt Spray will provide light hold and leave you with a natural look.
JONNY BAIRSTOW
How to get the Jonny Bairstow haircut
England cricket star Jonny Bairstow stopped by our Birmingham barbers for a trim ahead of the start of the Ashes at Edgbaston. With play just starting at the Ashes, and England just coming off their World Cup Win, our Cricketers needed to be looking their best and feeling confident out on the field.
Who is Jonny Bairstow?
Jonny Bairstow is one of the stars of England’s international cricket team and also plays locally for Yorkshire. He was part of the squad that brought home the 2019 Cricket World Cup
How do I ask for the Jonny Bairstow haircut?
Master barber Ed was left to get Jonny looking the part at our Birmingham barbers ahead of the Ashes and he tells us exactly what he did to help get Bairstow match ready. “Jonny has a strong wave and very thick hair This means he needs a little help in styling and shaping his hair.”
Ed said, “We started with a 2 back and sides, with a 1 around the edges and a taper finish. On top, we went short in the middle, with a little more length on the fringe and all brought left to right, with no parting. We reduced the weight in his hair with point cutting to add texture and increase flexibility.”
How do I style this haircut at home?
Ed went on to explain: “We used Sea Salt Spray to control the wave and help blow dry the hair into shape. Lastly, we added some Workable Paste to hold and finish the look. We used a 1 on the beard with clean lines and beard oil to soften the hairs and skin.”
DAVID BECKHAM – Get David Beckham’s Royal Wedding Hairstyle look!
David Beckham’s Royal Wedding hairstyle has already proven popular, with clients from around the country asking us to help recreate the look. And of course, we aren’t surprised. David Beckham has been an absolute trend setter with his hair and fashion for years, and as the son of a hairdresser, it makes total sense that he’d be willing to experiment so much. The wedding itself was one of the biggest moments of the year, with millions tuning in around the world to see the guests arrive before the big ceremony it was the perfect time to show off and make sure he was looking his best.
How do I ask for David Beckham’s Royal Wedding Hairstyle?
When you ask your barber for David Beckham’s Royal Wedding hairstyle, they’ll first need to check to see if you have the right hair type – if your hair is incredibly curly, you may struggle to achieve the look. Jay Burns, expert barber at Pall Mall Barbers Bishopsgate, tells us how the barber achieved David Beckham’s Royal Wedding hairstyle: “For Beckham’s wedding haircut, the barber has taken the back and sides roughly down to a 2 guard and fully tapered out the neckline. His sideburns have been blended into facial hair as well. The top of the hair has been cropped, following the profile of the head, with plenty of texture added. You should ask your barber for around a number 6 grade on top, done with scissors not clippers.”
How should I style this haircut at home?
Jay explained that “The best way to style this haircut the same way as Beckham did on the big day, is to use the Pall Mall Barbers Sea Salt Spray dried in with a hairdryer, and a small amount of our Matte Pliable Clay for some hold that still has movement, creating a softer finish. The Pliable Clay should be applied from the root of hair to the tip, to lift and show off the texture that’s been cut into the hair.”
David Beckham opted for a short, rugged-looking stubble for the big day, so ask your barber to take your beard down to a grade 1 if you want to achieve a similar look. Be sure to moisturise the beard area, as it can easily become dry. Use either our Beard Oil or Post-Shave Balm and thoroughly work it into the beard to replenish the skin underneath.
Since finishing his professional football career a few years back, Beckham’s only job now is apparently to be a man who is (in the immortal words of Zoolander) really, really, ridiculously good looking, and he continues to excel at it. According to GQ, David Beckham stepped out in Dior Homme by Kim Jones, and looked as dapper as one man can be. Really, we aren’t jealous at all.
JACK GREALISH – How to get the Jack Grealish haircut
Who is Jack Grealish?
Jack Grealish is one of the most highly-rated young English footballers in the country. Though he plays for Aston Villa, he’s no villain himself and even winds up being the hero on many occasions. The ladies love Jack no surprise there because his hairstyle is fancier than his footwork. At 22 years old, Jack has got attention from the fairer sex as well as some fairly decent sides in the premier league who want promising talent for themselves. With a haircut and look that’s quite daring, you don’t necessarily have to be a handsomely paid athlete to rock this style but you will need some charisma. While Jack might be a future star of the English game, he is still playing in the Championship meaning he still has some way to go before reaching his full potential. Consequently, if you were to imitate his hairstyle, not many folks would notice that you copied it, leaving your adoring public to believe you are a true original (it’s okay, we won’t tell them). Master barber, Russell from Pall Mall Barbers King’s Cross explains the Grealish haircut in a bit more detail below.
What is the Jack Grealish Haircut?
Jack’s sporting a stunning slicked-back undercut look. Fans of Boardwalk Empire might associate this look with Jimmy Darmody who rocks it on the show with just as much pizzazz. The only difference is that Jack has gone for the big hair effect in his slicked-back undercut, whereas Jimmy has a flat and classic slick back undercut. To recreate the Jack Grealish haircut you will need an undercut on the back and sides while the hair on top should be around 6 inches. This look will require some growth on top before it can be executed perfectly but if you’ve ticked that box, you can make this bad boy Barnet yours today!
What do I ask for the Jack Grealish haircut?
Assuming you’ve grown out enough length on top (approximately five to six inches), ask your barber for an undercut with a grade 1 on the back and sides. If in doubt, show a picture to your barber. It always helps for peace of mind.
How should I style this haircut at home?
As with all medium-length haircuts for men, you’ll need to go for a product that has a solid hold and some shine. A good quality pomade will do the trick. Apply a small amount and comb through the hair using a hair dryer to keep in place.
How often do I need to get it cut?
Every two to three weeks to keep the fade looking sharp.
Grealish is clean-shaven but you might like to carry a stubble or a beard to accompany the new look so don’t forget – we are THE beard specialists in London. Don’t bother to look anywhere else for your beard grooming in London services – get your head right and head over to Pall Mall Barbers in London.
CONOR MCGREGOR – How to get the Conor McGregor haircut
Who is Conor McGregor?
When he’s not starring in a knockout highlight reel or a trailer for the greatest trash talkers in history, Conor McGregor is busy making himself an icon. When we think of the classic McGregor image, we think about ballsy, tight-fitting suits and a swaggering walk which could rival any catwalk model. Above his shaded eyes, there rests another feature which we undeniably associate with The Notorious – namely his haircut. Always slick and predictably sharp, Conor’s well-kept crop is cut in a way which has been imitated by millions of fans after him. No surprises, considering it’s one of the all-time best haircuts for men.
Conor McGregor’s story is well-known, rising from humble plumbing apprentice to Dublin’s finest fighter of all time. His unwavering commitment to martial arts and his audacity to push boundaries in rings with different shapes is a testament to his character and confidence. 2018 marked The Mystic Mac’s 10th active year in the fight game which he hoped to celebrate with a monumental win in the octagon. The last time we watched Conor fight was against Floyd Mayweather and we all know how that went, but the real winner was his pocket.
Master barber, Russell from Pall Mall Barbers King’s Cross explains the McGregor haircut in a bit more detail below.
What is the Conor McGregor Haircut?
The signature Conor McGregor haircut consists of high skin fades on the back and sides with a hard side parting on top with the hair immaculately swept to one side.
What should you ask your barber for?
Ask your barber for a short scissor cut on top with a hard side parting using a razor for extra definition. Make sure your barber leaves enough length on top for the hair to be manoeuvred to one side. A high skin fade will do just the trick on the back and sides. If you don’t want to go super super short, ask your barber for a 1 or 2 grade instead.
How should I style this haircut at home?
To get the shine and hold, apply a small amount of good pomade through the hair, sweeping to your preferred side. To keep your new style well-maintained and groomed to perfection throughout the day, you might need to invest in a high-quality, discreet comb. Nothing says gentleman better than an exquisite folding pocket comb.
Conor is bearded but you might like to carry a stubble or a clean-shaven look to accompany your new style so don’t forget we are THE beard specialists in London, so call off the search party and head over to Pall Mall Barbers.
DAVID ALLEN – How to get the David Allen haircut
Our Paddington barbershop in London played host to heavyweight boxer David Allen, better known by his moniker The White Rhino. David was interviewed in the chair whilst Vito gave him a haircut and beard trim, to get Allen in fighting-fit shape for an upcoming face-off. Allen is increasingly popular on the boxing circuit for both his great sense of humour and toughness in the ring. He’s quite the entertainer on social media too!
What haircut did The Rhino get?
Vito worked his magic on the White Rhino, who opted for a low 0.5 skin fade on the back and sides, keeping length on top with a lot of texture cut in and left really natural. As Allen also keeps a beard, he needed a shape up and trim, which was taken down to a grade 2 and shaped up with the cutthroat razor.
Matchroom Boxing’s YouTube series, The Cut, is a pre-match catch-up with the boxers, where they visit barbers and interview them in the chair about their upcoming matches, as well future plans. Watch the video at the top of the page.

Founded in 1896 at No. 27 Whitcomb Street, The Pall Mall Toilet Saloon, as it was historically known, was a standout in St James’ and Pall Mall. Pall Mall Barbers has grown and evolved over the years. Across our 6 London locations in Trafalgar Square, Fitzrovia, Bishopsgate, King’s Cross, Westminster and Paddington, we employ a staff with over 350 years of international barbering experience between them. We train our barbers on the fundamentals of exceptional hair cutting, beard shaping, and wet shaving and base our service around educating our clients to help them get the best of their look and grooming routines. We produce award-winning grooming including a 5-Step Shave System for use at home and in barber shops, as well as a selection of styling and haircare products.
We’ve got the right to claim our title of being the best, most established hairdressers in the capital because our first shop opened way back in 1896. Since then, we’ve grown to several locations (even one across the pond!) including our London barber shop. Our modern service is exceptional, extremely highly rated and regularly wins awards.
You can find the best barbershop in London ready and waiting to deliver you an amazing cut coupled with helpful advice and consultation to keep you looking awesome all the time, and even a complimentary whiskey or rum to go with it. Hair Styling Products for Men
There are so many hair styling products for men on the market, how do you know which one to use?
The best way, of course, is to ask an expert. Like one of the barbers at our very own Pall Mall Barbers shops in Central London. With their vast collective experience of cutting and styling men’s hair, they’ll know exactly which hair styling product to use to get the look that you want.
One thing we often find is that men like to stick to what they know – whether that’s the hairstyle they’ve sported for years or the products they’ve been using. Have a chat to your barber next time you’re in and you’ll be surprised to learn that you could get a better result or finish to your hair with something other than the hair styling product you’ve relied on for so long.
Our range of hair styling products for men has been developed over many years using the finest ingredients – ones that work, and also smell great. And we’ve tried and tested them with the people that matter – our customers, to make sure that they do what they say on the tin.
Whether you want a smooth back look like those Mad Men Don Draper and Peter Campbell, or maybe you prefer a more rugged, casual and messy style like Prince Harry, we’ll have just the right hair styling products for you.
Your barber will advise you and show you how to use the product properly – we always suggest that you use a little bit first, warm it between your hands and then apply it. We’ve even created a load of videos to give you advice on how to use them if you can’t call into our barber shops. Why not head over to the Pall Mall Barbers YouTube Channel and have a look?
