Michael’s Story
I have been working at Pall Mall Barbers for 6 years and started to grow my beard around that same time! For most of my adult life beards really were quite uncommon in the fashion world, sure everyone now and again some facial hairstyles pop in and out of trend (George Michael’s goatee/ Alexandria Del Pizarro’s mutton chops) but by and large beards seemed to be the domain of senior gentlemen and sea captains!
When I first started growing my beard I got the usual comments from friends and family (called everything from shaggy from Scooby-Doo to Mr. Upside-Down Head) but it’s was just harmless teasing, but it wasn’t long before people started telling me how much it suited me and it’s also starting getting me a lot of attention tourists and street photographers!
As a barber at Pall Mall Barbers, I’ve had the honour of trimming the beards of some rather distinguished gentlemen from Hollywood stars to tv celebrities and sporting heroes, and let’s not forget Captain Fawcett himself!
Sadly we all now find ourselves in troubling times where the whole world is now on lockdown and we all face a stressful few months of being cooped up indoors!
Right now all my thoughts are going out to all the NHS staff who are on the front lines of this COVID-19 putting themselves in harm’s way 24/7 day in, day out to keep us all well! My mum was a nurse for her entire working life. If she would be here today she’d be putting her uniform back on and rolling up her sleeves! I personally would like to show my appreciation for all the NHS staff by doing what I can and have decided to shave my in order to raise some money for all those Angeles looking over us so please dig deep!!!
The amazing NHS staff and volunteers are working tirelessly to care for COVID-19 patients. And we want them to know the country has also got their back. This means staying away from their homes and families, working day and night, to treat as many people as possible in need of care. We are so proud and in awe of NHS staff and volunteers as they work tirelessly to save lives!
